Lyricull Festival

A four day festival at Hull Central Library celebrating the best of contemporary British songwriters.

Funded by the James Reckitt Library Trust, Hull Libraries worked in partnership with Wrecking Ball Press to create 'Lyricull' - a four day festival, in celebration of contemporary British songwriters (22-25 September 2016).

Hull Central Library was host to 4 artists in conversation with Russ Litten, talking about their work, outlook and influences:

- Jason Williamson / Sleaford Mods
- Shaun Ryder / Happy Mondays & Black Grape
- Viv Albertine / The Slits
- Pauline Black / The Selector

The finale evening featured Michael Head performing acoustic versions of songs from across his career.

Shane Rhodes, festival organiser from Wrecking Ball Press, states:

“Like many others, I got into poetry through song lyrics. From that moment, great song writing has always excited me as much as great literature. Lyricull is the first of what we hope will be many festivals celebrating the art of song writing."

Each night was a sell-out with over 200 guests & some great feedback from our audience members – see the Hull Libraries Storify pages for their excellent twitter archive - storify.com/hull_libraries/lyricull
