2018 marks the 11th anniversary of the James Reckitt Hull Children’s Book Award.

The voting for the Key Stage 2 shortlist will take place at the The Big Malarkey Festival on Wednesday 20 June 2018.

400 children from over 40 schools in Hull have been invited along to hear from the authors, share their opinions of the books and vote for their winning title.  The votes will be collated on the day and a specially commissioned artwork will be presented to the winning writer. Students can also achieve their Arts Award Discover by logging their thoughts and ideas in the KS2 award diary.

This year's shortlisted books for KS2 include:

  • The Matilda Effect - Ellie Irving
  • Kid Normal - Greg James & Chris Smith
  • Martha Mayhem and the Witch from the Ditch - Joanne Owen
  • Spy Toys - Mark Powers
  • Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Almost Entirely Unplanned Adventure - A.L.Kennedy
